Physical Therapy Mission Statement

The entry-level physical therapy program is an accredited full-time weekend program dedicated to preparing motivated graduates to become skilled, ethical and respectful doctors of physical therapy with a commitment to evidence based practice, lifelong learning and service. Through a strong science foundation and a challenging yet supportive environment, congruent with the mission of Dominican University, graduates are prepared to deliver the highest standards of practice and leadership to meet the ever-changing societal needs related to movement, function and health.

Students are responsible to be available to attend all Program events for all on-campus instructional weekends, including alternate weekends.

ZOOM ETIQUETTE POLICY

Remote Learning – Professionalism and Student Code of Conduct

Remote learning (Zoom, or any other distance learning platform) is becoming an integral component of the DPT department class sessions. Zoom, et all is to be considered a classroom; therefore, all traditional classroom etiquette applies and students are expected to adhere to the following best practices in order to ensure an optimal learning environment.

Clinical Education

PT 757 Clinical Experience II

Please make sure to track and coordinate with your CI to make up any missed days.

Submissions:

All weekly goals sheets should be submitted within 24 hours of the last day of the affiliation. Missed submissions may result in a grade of incomplete.

At the end of the affiliation, please submit and upload your Student Evaluation of Clinical Experience document.

Upload your In service documents to blackboard within 48 hours of the end of your affiliation.

WebPT

Each student has access to the Electronic Medical Records (EMR), WebPT. Access to the EMR allows students to train in an online EMR system before treating in the clinic.

Each student has been assigned a personal log-in for WebPT. To begin, access the main site at: https://www.webpt.com/.

Username: Your username is the same username assigned to your DC email account. For example, if your email is: johndoe1@dc.edu, your WebPT username is: johndoe1

Password: Your password for first-time login is: “Password1!”. You will be required to change your password when logging on for the first time.

If you have any questions about WebPT, you may access a series of WebPT training modules at https://webpt.learnupon.com/. Here, you need to register first (a complete new sign up and not the one that you use for Webpt). Once you've signed up, in the top left, click on 'resources', followed by 'catalog', to view all the courses.

American Physical Therapy Association of Massachusetts The APTA of MA is a component of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and is comprised of approximately 1,850 members, consisting of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and students in the field of physical therapy.

American Physical Therapy Association of New Jersey is a not-for-profit, professional organization representing physical therapists and physical therapist assistants who are licensed by the state of New Jersey. Other Association members include students in accredited PT and PTA programs. All officers and board members are volunteers.

American Geriatrics Society (AGS) is the premier professional organization of health care providers dedicated to improving the health and well-being of all older adults. With an active membership of over 6,000 health care professionals, AGS has a long history of effecting change in the provision of health care for older adults. In the last decade, the Society has become a pivotal force in shaping attitudes, policies and practices regarding health care for older people.

Arthritis Foundation is committed to helping the 43 million Americans with arthritis in supporting research across the country into the causes and treatments of arthritis, creating and delivering educational, exercise and emotional support programs work on the local, state and national levels to institute new policies that will increase arthritis research funding, improve prescription drug coverage by insurance programs or focus federal public health efforts on arthritis.

Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy The Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy develops and administers the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) for both physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in 53 jurisdictions – the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. These high-stakes exams assess the basic entry-level competence for first time licensure or registration as a PT or PTA within the 53 jurisdictions.

Foundation for Physical Therapy was established in 1979 as a national, independent, nonprofit corporation to support the physical therapy profession's research needs in scientific, clinical and health services research. The mission of the organization is to advance the physical therapy profession through support for doctoral education and sponsorship of clinically relevant research.

New Jersey State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners This board is responsible for the regulation of physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in New Jersey.

NYSED This board is responsible for the regulation of physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in New York.

Orthopedic Section of the American Physical Therapy Association is the leading resource for orthopaedic physical therapy. The Section serves members and represents the interests of orthopaedic physical therapy by fostering high quality patient care and promoting professional growth through advancement of education and clinical practice, facilitation of quality research, and professional development of members.

Pub Med is a service of the National Library of Medicine that provides access to over 12 million MEDLINE citations back to the mid-1960s and additional life science journals. Pub Med includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.

Physical Therapy Jobs

Society for Neuroscience is a nonprofit membership organization of basic scientists and physicians who study the brain and nervous system. Neuroscience includes the study of brain development, sensation and perception, learning and memory, movement, sleep, stress, aging and neurological and psychiatric disorders.
