MAJOR in Communication STUDIES
This 36-credit major consists of six required “core” courses in the program, including Interpersonal Communication, Gender Communication, Persuasion and Argumentation, Communication Theory, Language, Communication, and Power, and a three-credit Senior Research Seminar. Majors then have a choice of two tracks as an area of concentration. Students must complete a minimum of 15 credits within one of the following tracks:
1. Media Communication – including Introduction to New Media, Communication Technology, Visual Communication, and Mass Communication.
2. Organizational Communication and Leadership – including Business and Global Communication, Public Relations, Communicating Change, Crisis Communication, and Leadership.
Communication Studies students also are allowed one additional elective courses within the major and are strongly encouraged to apply for an internship, as well as develop a minor.
Minor in Communications
The minor in Communications is offered through the Division of Arts and Sciences and provides a broad-based academic experience that supports other programs at the College. Regardless of a student’s academic major, the courses for this minor are designed to help students to understand, examine, and function in the Information Age.
